Materials:

  • Book: The Dog Poop Initiative, by Kirk Weisler

 

Activity/Discussion:

  1. Read story. At the following points in the story, ask the following discussion questions:

What do you think should be done?

How do you think the coach and son will change the day?

Is it helpful for other people to talk about how to avoid the poo?

What is the lesson of this story?

2. After the story, ask the following discussion questions:

  • In our home/classroom, who is responsible for cleaning up messes?

  • In our home/classroom, what is a job that usually no one knows who is supposed to do it?

  • Who should be responsible for getting that job done?

  • Outside of this home/classroom, what are some jobs that nobody wants to do?

  • Who is responsible for doing those jobs?

  • How do you think taking initiative makes you feel?

3. Looking at this fun picture in the back of the book, spot ten differences between the two pictures:
